flashbelt wrap-up

I just got back from an amazing conference- Flashbelt, in Minneapolis. http://www.flashbelt.com

On the one hand it was amazing and inspiring and energizing, on the other hand it made me look at the work I’ve done over the past couple of years in a new and less favorable light, and on one foot it makes me realize just how awesome the work I’m doing single-handedly really is, and on the other foot it makes me realize just how much more I need to / want to grow.

So, really a lot of different things going on here. Go check out the speakers page at the flashbelt site if you want to be awed.

edit — I guess WordPress doesn’t automatically link to URL’s anymore. that’s annoying. Also- there are supposed to be many line breaks to show the 3 seperate paragraphs in the above text, but I guess WordPress does not want to show those either.

ADDY

new aijalon siteI found out this week that we have been slected to receive an ADDY award for our http://www.aijalon.net site. That makes me pretty stoked. http://www.nebraskaaddys.org/ We won’t know what level of award (bronze, silver, gold) until the award banquet on Feb 2, so that’s exciting. I’m very happy that all our hard work is being recognized, especially me. Yay me.

testing out a new gallery

http://www.nonoart.com/slideshow-test-page/

I’m testing out the new SlideShowPro version 1.6.7 and SSP Director 1.1.5

So far I like them alot. I will be adding to and testing more. anything to make it easier to control a big bunch of images!

aijalon phase 1.8 now live

http://www.aijalon.net

bug fixes and additional features- probably the biggest is the deeplinking script- which allows Flash to process links into the site, a big problem for full-flash sites

added some other stuff- mouseovers and junk.

some new sites

sometimes working on a website can be very hectic, at other times it can be appallingly slow. most of the time it’s a “hurry up and wait” situation. here are 2 such cases.

I worked on the Flash for both of them, and then forgot about them completely until this week when they went live. both sites are very nice, and it’s nice to see how they turned out. it’s funny when I look back at the files and see that the last time I worked on the ago flash was last november! ha!

new aijalon site

new aijalon siteI’m pleased to announce the new aijalon website. It is a full-Flash site which is 100% integrated to our CMS. What that means is that all of the content presented is done so by Flash, and can me animated and manipulated. The information can be changed on the fly, without ever touching the Flash source.

I have been working on this for several months and I am pleased with how it turnedout. I am already compiling a list of changes, updates, and features for Phase 2.

some old sites

I was doing a little server maintainance and ran across some old stuff I thought I’d link to. I used to redo my site frequently, changing the style, the technology, the complexity, experimenting with different ways of using Flash to load content etc… these are some of those experiments

http://www.nonoart.com/laundry.html - never really got finished

http://nonoart.com/shiny/shiny.html - same as laundy version

http://nonoart.com/nono3.swf - no idea

http://www.nonoart.com/test.htm - somehow inspired by rockstar games site (at the time?) 2003 ish - I think this had a lot of potential - parts got canibalized

http://www.nonoart.com/tall.html - this is a short version, there was a taller one with experimental games at the bottom but I can’t find it

http://nonoart.com/Untitled-2.swf - these rainbow lines are musical

http://nonoart.com/trial.swf - super small flash site

http://www.nonoart.com/1index.html - 2004(ish) html version (simple)

http://nonoart.com/test/ripoff.html - full flash overly complicated dynamic content - never completed - design based on something famous

http://www.nonoart.com/index_old.html - full flash version of current look 2005 ish

who needs photoshop anyway?

http://www.fauxto.com/

I came across this today. If you want some of the features of Photoshop without installing and purchasing a graphics program, try it out. I was really impressed by the way you can upload, manipulate, and download your image seamlessly. The filters and paint tools are a little clunky, but if you don’t need high-end, this should wrok in a pinch.

old animations

I was looking at my log (site stats) and noticed that a lot of people are hitting some old Flash animations I made for the band SOJH. Back in 2002 (?) I made these for promotion for their album “Kiss of Deaf.”

bitmap data. Flash experiment

I was working on a transitional piece and decided to do some blocky stuff based on Flash’s bitmap data info… So this thing basically analyzes the bitmap you click the pink button over, in a 10×10 pixel grid, and then displays the color of the sampled pixel in an 8×8 square, positioned to reconstruct the original image in a pixelated way. You’ll need Flash 8 to view it…
